Infact, his style (Afropop) as become the umbrella style for other artistes in Africa as it has been studied and divided into Afrofusion, Afrorave, AfroHouse to mention a few.
His versatility is also a quality of Wizkid’s style that is not greatly appreciated by music lovers.
He is able to switch his vocals to a different genre when he likes, he has done that in numerous songs he has featured in such as ‘Brown Skin Girl’, ‘Come Closer’, ‘Jam’ to mention a few.In essence, what you should expect from Wizkid is just versatility as he is a box of different sounds.
This post would not be complete without considering what Asa would bring to the song and to her much anticipated album as a whole.
Asa genre of music is definately one of the Nigerian sounds that has travelled throughout the globe irrespective of the culture especially in the last ten years.
She is indeed deserving of every praise she receives for her success. She is one of the first Nigerian artistes who has been responsible for the recognition of African sounds in foreign lands.
Asa songs combines carefully written lyrics and harmonious melodies which imbibes the input of pianos, guitars, drums. Her songs are usually opened with spoken words with slow notes on the piano. As the song progresses, the drums and her voice pace begins to increase creating an organized sound that she is known for.
Her voice is usually filled with lot of eagerness and may convey feelings of heartbreak, joy, betrayal or vengeance. Asa is an expert in creating this narrative and this quality of hers helps the listener understands her point of view.
Definitely, with these qualities of hers, she’s definately an act that would come in as a great asset of any beat she comes across with.
She is often criticized for being one sided by local Nigerians because she fails to bridge the gap between her foreign audience and the local lay man.
So the addition of Wizkid to her song would definitely do a lot of good when it comes to exposure and the outreach of the song especially to the Nigerian audience.
