Rapper Da Brat and Jesseca Dupart shared the fact that they will be “extending” their family soon with fans on Instagram, whilst embraced Dupart’s stomach, offering up a baby bump emoji to make it clear what kind of “extending” they were talking about.
Who is Da Brat and Jesseca Dupart?
Shawntae Harris who is popularly known as Da Brat is a popular Grammy-nominated rapper who peaked the charts in the early ’90s and 2000s. She was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. Since her parents were never married, she grew up in two homes. In 1992, when she was only 18, she participated in a local rap contest organized by ‘Yo! MTV Raps’. After winning the contest she got to meet Kris Kross. The duo introduced her to their producer Jermaine Dupri.
Dupri was instantly taken in by Brat’s talent and signed her to his label So So Def. In 1994, she released her debut album ‘Funkdafied’. The album went platinum and made her the first female solo rapper to sell one million copies. She regularly reigned the charts as she continued to associate herself with top artists like Mariah Carey, Lil’ Kim, and Missy Elliott. The rapper currently works as the co-host of ‘Rickey Smiley Morning Show’ and is also part of the Dish Nation. She also dabbled in reality television when she joined ‘The Rap Game’ in 2017 as a mentor, and later became the executive producer of ‘Growing up Hip Hop: Atlanta’. She will also soon be starring on her own WE Tv reality show called ‘Da Brat Loves Judy’.
Jesseca Dupart is a businesswoman and Kaleidoscope Hair founder, who was born on 12th of February 1982 in New Orleans, Louisiana, the United States, to Evelyn and Anthony Dupart. Her star sign is Aquarius, and she is African American. She went to Warren Easton Charter High School. Because of her outspokenness, Jesseca got put out of a couple of schools before landing at a public school with one of the best cosmetology programs in New Orleans.
As earlier stated, she is the founder of Kaleidoscope Hair Products, owner of non-profit KaleidoKares, an influencer with 2 million followers on Instagram and the star and executive producer of WETV show Brat Loves Judy. She is also a real estate investor, mentor, teacher, author and speaker of God’s truth.
The duo has been dating for quite a while now and have gone public with their engagement before the news of the expectancy of an extended family.
How Did the Duo Met and The Journey So Far?
Da Brat met Jesseca Dupart in 2007. Da Brat showed up at one of Dupart’s Miracle Drops events in Atlanta and though they connected, the two lost touch. They would reconnect and play quite the love game. “We were friends for a while, and it kinda happened like that,” Dupart shared to BET Style last year. “She’s the sweetest person I’ve ever met. So, after getting to know her and chasing her a little bit and then her having to chase me—because I went ghost—we finally connected.”
By 2019, the pair were dating and enjoying each other’s company, but because the rapper had never publicly spoken about her sexuality, they had to keep things quiet. But during ESSENCE Fest in 2019, Brat decided she didn’t care anymore and held Dupart’s hand in public. “My staff was going crazy,” she recalled to ESSENCE. “They were like, ‘Oh my God.’ They were trying to block us and hide us. And it was like, ‘Oh my God, she’s holding her hand in public. Oh my God, did they just kiss?’”
In 2020, Da Brat, who had kept things quiet, she said, to protect the women she was with, decided to love on Dupart openly after the entrepreneur bought her a Rolls Royce for her birthday. “Needless to say… I’ve always been a kind of private person until I met my heart’s match who handles some things differently than I do,” she wrote on Instagram. “I have never experienced this feeling. It’s so overwhelming that often I find myself in a daze hoping to never get pinched to see if it’s real so I can live in this dream forever.”
The Expectancy of An Addition
Back in 2020, the “Give It 2 You” rapper said she already knows what she would want to name her future daughter, though the couple has not yet revealed what the sex of their baby on the way is. “My child will have all of my names, honey,” Da Brat said while hosting Dish Nation. “Her name would be Legacy Shawntae Dupart. Shawntae is my first name and Dupart is my baby’s last name. Yes honey, carry on the legacy of your parents’ darling.”
Jesseca’s journey in the hair and cosmetology field wasn’t an easy one. She was sneaking her friends into her house and doing hair for free in her bedroom. Meanwhile, her parents wanted her to be a lawyer or a doctor and preferred their daughter focus on her studies instead of styles. With perseverance, Judy was able to graduate in 2000 and secure her cosmetology license in 2001. After obtaining her license Judy’s hustle went into overdrive. She did hair out of her home and had a constant stream of clients knocking on her door at all hours of the day and night looking for Jesseca’s creative touch. She was the queen of the big, tall, spritz moulded styles that were hot back then. Jesseca was in her element, and she loved creating new and unique styles and exploring colour.
After a while, Judy became the co-owner of a salon. She was focused on her work and took clients on Sundays, Mondays and holidays when most stylists would never. This allowed her to charge a premium price and stack her coins. During this time, she took an interest in social media and developed her online persona, Judy. Her goal was to be known as the best for hair period, not just in NOLA. In 2014, she launched her line: Kaleidoscope Hair Products, and the company has since grossed millions of dollars.
