Rihanna’s “Anti” Becomes The First Black Female Album To Land 300+ Weeks On The Billboard 200


In a world far from the one we know, Rihanna’s last studio album – 2016’s “Anti” – was considered a commercial failure thanks to a murky rollout and a multitude of non-starting singles.

Fast-forward to 2022, and it’s one of the most successful projects of the millennium (commercially and critically), a continuing victory that’s continually underscored by announced hits at the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and Billboard.

This week, the latter unveiled the news that the opus, which to date has sold over 11 million copies worldwide.

Already in the history books for being the first album by a black artist to get 200 weeks on the Billboard 200 the updated edition of the chart finds “Anti” at No. 125 in its 301st week on the chart.

With this news, the “Work”-housing LP becomes the first album by a black artist to cross the 300-week threshold on the major albums chart.

Extending its reign as one of the longest-running albums in history among women, only Adele’s “21” (527 weeks), Lana Del Rey’s “Born To Die” (418), Taylor Swift’s “1989” ( 373 weeks), and Carole King’s “Tapestry” (318 weeks) have accumulated more time on the countdown.
