Femi Kuti, a Nigerian artist, took to social media today, October 15, to honor his late father, Fela Kuti, on his 24th posthumous birthday.
If he were still living, the Afrobeat hero, who is widely regarded as Nigeria’s Afrobeat pioneer, would have turned 83 today.
His son paid tribute to him on Instagram, saying that despite being gone for 24 years, he is still missed.
He wrote, “Sharing an old photo of Fela,
“Happy Father’s Day, FELA!”
Wow, it’s been 24 years and we still miss you terribly.
“We adore you.”

According to his brother, Olikoye Ransome-Kuti, the famed entertainer died of AIDS-related problems on August 2, 1997, in Lagos. Fela’s widow, on the other hand, insisted that he did not die of AIDS.
He was laid to rest in the front yard of his home in Ikeja, Nigeria, after a funeral procession that began at Tafawa Balewa Square and finished at his home in Ikeja, Nigeria.
