Ann Reinking was an American former Dancer, retired Actress, Choreographer and Singer. She was born on November 10, 1949, and worked predominantly in musical theater, starring in Broadway productions such as Coco (1969), Over Here! (1974), Goodtime Charley (1975), Chicago (1977), Dancin’ (1978), and Sweet Charity (1986).
Ann married four times. She was first married on March 19, 1972, to Broadway actor Larry Small, whom she divorced the same year. Later she got married again to investment banker Herbert Allen Jr. from 1982 to 1989. In 1989, she married businessman James Stuart, with whom she had a son, Christopher, before their divorce in 1991. Reinking married sportswriter Peter Talbert in 1994 and was stepmother to his four children. She retired in 2017 and lived in Paradise Valley, Arizona. How Did Ann Help Her Son Overcome His Fears
Ann Reinking decided to leave a part of her career behind when she got pregnant with Christopher Reinking Smith, a.k.a. Chris. Ann revealed in an interview that she knew something was wrong with Chris. The Broadway dancer admitted reading about Marfan syndrome while growing up.
Soon, Ann’s fears were brought to life when Chris was diagnosed with the disease. Ann admitted it was hard for Chris to do many things that others found it easy. At the same time, she tried to protect him from the society that could be like bullies at times.
Ann went on to move states to ensure Chris got proper treatment. She also took him to therapy to make sure he did not feel left out. Finally, with Ann’s help, Chris managed to gain the confidence he needed in life. She even worked with the Marfan Foundation, which is dedicated to raising awareness of the disease. Ann produced the 2009 documentary In My Hands: A Story of Marfan Syndrome.
Ann Reinking had recalled teaching children with Marfan Syndrome how to dance and admitted it felt wonderful to be present in the same room as those children. “These kids have a look that is unique and really quite beautiful … One of the good things about accomplishing something is that it helps your self-image of yourself,”. The human spirit is the greatest thing on earth. To be a part of that, whether it is to have people forget their problems … we’re all of a sudden tangible, right there, you can truly touch it, you can truly see it’s there. That’s the best thing for me.” she said.
