The 2015 American sports drama film Southpaw, which was written by Kurt Sutter and stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Forest Whitaker, and Rachel McAdams, was directed by Antoine Fuqua. The movie centres on a boxer who decides to take control of his life after losing his wife in an accident and his young daughter to child protective services. Despite the fact that the movie’s New York City setting, it was really filmed in Pittsburgh and the nearby town of Indiana, Pennsylvania.
The movie was one of the final ones that James Horner scored, and it was the first of three posthumous albums to contain his music (the other two being The 33 and The Magnificent Seven). His memory is honoured through the movie and its music record.

Build- up to the Southpaw Movie
Billy Hope was initially going to be played by Eminem. The rapper’s personal troubles, according to the film’s screenwriter Kurt Sutter, served as inspiration for the production. He claimed that during the previous seven years, he had met with Eminem’s producing colleagues to discuss potential collaborations.
But things didn’t turn out the way we had hoped.
In addition to spending five months training as a boxer, Gyllenhaal conducted research for his character by reading “loads of books about boxers, orphan boxers, the spirit of gyms all across America, youngsters who start early, [and] the history of foster care in America.” In a later interview with Zane Lowe, Eminem praised Gyllenhaal’s performance, saying that “Jake destroyed it.”
The soundtrack, which was released by Shady Records on July 24, 2015, was executive produced by Eminem. On June 2, 2015, he had earlier made his single “Phenomenal” from the soundtrack available.
The first investment in an American was made with Southpaw.
