The Man Called SPM, Who Is He?

SPM is an American rapper with a birthname of Carlos Coy. He was born on October 5, 1970, in the South Park neighbourhood of Houston, Texas. Throughout his early life, Coy reportedly worked as a drug dealer and was in and out of school. A Houston-Texas native, Carlos Coy grew up in South Park, Houston where is name was derived. Thus, the name South Park Mexican came to life. But even before his name flourished in the music industry, he had to go through a lot. He was a drop out, became a minimum wage employee of a chemical plant, experienced being a door to door perfume seller and even indulged in dealing crack cocaine. The High So High singer released his debut album, Hillwood, in 1995. He is the father to a daughter by name Carley Coy.

As the founder of the independent record label, Dope House Records, Coy has gone on to release nine albums while in prison. His 2006 album When Devils Strike reached No2 in the US Independent Albums chart, with follow-ups The Last Chair Violinist and The Son of Norma peaking at No3 and No9 respectively.

When his album was released, his music brought his name to the world and became famous. But at the height of his career, he was found guilty for child molestation last September of 2001. But the charge was bailable so he was able to get out of jail. But accusations kept coming after the first. He was accused of having impregnated a 13 year old girl, who demanded for child support. Later, two more accusations were charged to him. And after several hearings and court trials, Carlos Coy, popularly known as South Park Mexican, Houston jury convicted him of being guilty of aggravated sexual assault of a child. Judge Mark Kent Ellis even told South Park Mexican that there was one common trait that sex offenders have, that is, they are all liars and SPM is not an exception to the rule. Carlos Coy was sentenced to 45 years in prison and was ordered to pay a fine $10,000.

SPM stands for South Park Mexican. The name is a reference to the neighbourhood of South Park in Houston, where he grew up.

Why Was SPM Sentenced to Jail?

Carlos Coy was jailed on May 30, 2002, for aggravated sexual assault of a nine-year-old child. The incident reportedly took place in 2001. During his trial, judges added another charge in relation to a horror 1993 incident when he allegedly impregnated a then-13-year-old girl.

Two additional charges followed in March 2002 for the sexual assault of two 14-year-old girls. Coy was also ordered to pay a $10,000 fine following the 2001 assault on the child, who was a friend of his daughter. The attack reportedly took place at a sleepover he was hosting for Carley.

When Will He Be Released?

SPM was handed a massive 45-year sentence for his horrific crimes. At the age of 31, he was thrown behind bars at the Ramsey Unit in Rosharon, Texas. Though Coy claims he is innocent. He is eligible for parole in 2024, but his projected release date is April 8, 2047. Despite his lengthy prison sentence, he reportedly bought a $30,000 engagement ring for his fiancée from his cell.

SPM is an American rapper, record producer, and sex offender who was jailed in 2002 over an aggravated sexual assault of a nine-year-old child who also happens to be a friend of his daughter. Though he pleaded not guilty, he was sentenced to 45-years in prison, not just for this case but for multiple others before it which he has always escaped from. His release date is recorded to be on April 8, 2047, though he is eligible for a parole in 2024.  He keeps his music alive even though in prison, as he has written songs whilst still in prison. He recently bought an engagement ring for his fiancée. He seems so determined to forge his career ahead and still live his life as a normal and free man would.
